This thread will list pictures along with some basic info about the "Speaker Model" Xyloband and give some links to other sites where it is discussed. General InfoThe Speaker Model uses an Atmel SAM D20 microcontroller and SiLabs Si4362 RF receiver. The RGB LEDs are soldered directly to the PCB. It also has a speaker with an SSM2211 audio amplifier to drive it. This model uses two AAAA batteries for power. Probably they used the same bands for all of the head full of dreams tour? I have two them from the Melbourne, Australia concert 9th & 10th December 2016.

We're not sure, but there were at least 3 hardware versions used for various shows in the AHFOD tour. It seems like it depends on the region.

Got one last night (11th June) from Coldplay concert in Cardiff, Wales. The speaker and components for the audio amplifier (SSM2211, etc) are not fitted to the PCB but everything else seems to be identical.
It is for a speaker, not a microphone. The SSM2211 chip is an audio amplifier which drives a speaker but I can't really see a 1.5W max output being very audible in a concert anyway! It must be designed for use in other places.

Xyloband Newb here. Attended San Diego, CA, USA AHFOD show last night. Even as ours had the same case, we didn't have a speaker and some components seem to have been eliminated. But I'm intrigued by the speaker version after seeing a hack of a hack video misID it as a RF receiver. As neiliow points out, given the wall of sound, even if it was a speaker, such wouldn't have been audible during the performance. So... a question for those who attended a show with speaker versions; is there ANY evidence they were used to output sound? Even as just a vibrator? If not, seems like a huge waste ... But if @abbedabb is right, and this is a speakers wired backwards, could it not be intended to be a crude sound based input device to drive LEDs? Tone = response? I suspect this version still had an RF based unit activation / stay alive and for other RF controlled output. But if so, it opens the door to cut the dependence on centralized RF input. Such a version could allow a retail versions that could work in any audio rich event ... and didn't depend on any centralized outbound RF based signal. Again... just a newb...

Seeing some activity on this read reminded me I was going to post this... I have done a bit of work on drawing the circuit of the speaker model - see attached. There may be errors - please let me know if you spot anything. I have not drawn the two main chips - the Atmel micro-controller and the Silicon Labs radio receiver - but all the peripheral parts which are connected to these are shown along with connections between the two devices. It's pretty straightforward - there are 3 channels of LED driving MOSFETs with a voltage regulator to provide a supply for the LEDs. This can be turned off for power saving. The audio circuit (not present on my band) is a simple amplifier from a port pin so not much opportunity for complex audio there! Q201 is reverse battery protection. The Si4362 circuitry is largely lifted from its datasheet. The inductors and capacitors around the wristband wiring are for EMC to prevent radiated interference. If you have an Atmel ICE it shouldn't actually take too much work to reprogram the micro with something to make the LEDs do something - the Si4362 doesn't need to be doing anything for this to happen. (It might need to be in a low power mode to prevent the batteries from going flat however.) I haven't had time to try this and I probably won't have the opportunity for a while but if anyone else does manage to make it do something I would be interested to hear about it.
